Lab Overview

“Understanding the essence of plants and enhancing their potential”

Our laboratory pursues two complementary research directions:
(1) fundamental studies aimed at uncovering the intrinsic nature of plants at the cellular level, and
(2) applied research that leverages these insights to enhance plant capabilities.

To achieve these goals, we integrate a broad range of approaches. Alongside cell biological and molecular biological techniques—such as live-cell imaging and gene network analysis—we employ biophysical methods that manipulate cellular structures using tools like optical tweezers and micromanipulators. We also actively engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with chemistry and related fields.

In running the laboratory, we place great value on creating an environment where students can freely develop and pursue their own budding ideas. Rather than imposing a top-down style, we aim to foster a dynamic and open research atmosphere that encourages intellectual curiosity and independent thinking.
